Depends on the person...usually around 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
How much does your hair grow?
Human hair seems to grow on average a consistent rate of about half a millimeter per day, or about half an inch every month (this study quotes a specific rate of 0.44 mm per day). It may grow faster or slower depending on your age, your genetics and your hormonal state (pregnancy seems to have an affect on hair), but half a millimeter per day is a good average. Maximum growth rate for hair is about 6 inches (15 cm) per year. If you have short hair and are thinking, "It sure would be nice if I had hair down to my waist," then you are going to have about a four-year wait!

How much does your hair grow?
Women's hair grows about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch per month, while men's hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch per month.
Also, the hair on the side of your head that you sleep on doesn't grow as much as the side facing away from the pillow. If you sleep on your back, then the hair on the back of your head will grow less than the hair on the sides of your head. Don't worry, though! Although the hair you sleep on grows less, it's such a miniscule amount that it's generally unnoticeable. I always thought that was an interesting fact.
