Do goosebumps make your hair (ie. leg hair) grow faster?

so two of my friends have stated to me that goosebumps made the hair on their legs grow faster. personally i think its bull. im thinking that the skin rising up kinda makes any hair you do have "rise" up further. but im not sure.

Do goosebumps make your hair (ie. leg hair) grow faster?

No the hairs arent actually growing faster your right its just and illusion heres a basic run down of what happens to your body when you get goosebumps its really pretty simple and something that as an esthetcian we had to learn about in school The hairs on your body lie close to your skin and have small muscles attached to them called arectores pilorum. When you feel cold or are frightened, these muscles pull on the hairs so they stand out almost perpendicular to your body, causing small bumps to appear. Hairs trap air between them in the same way that the fibers in a sweater trap air, helping to keep you warm. The arectores pilorum muscles also press against the oil glands located at the base of each hair shaft and squeeze oil onto the surface of the skin. The oil covers the skin's surface and helps to keep the skin warm by reducing evaporation of sweat from the skin's surface.

you are correct on both.

Do goosebumps make your hair (ie. leg hair) grow faster?

No it doesn't make it grow faster. Part of the hair shaft is below the skin. When you get goosebumps it simply pushes more of the hidden part out. It's a defense mechanism to help keep you warm.

All i know is that when i shave when it is warm out, it lasts for a while....but in the winter....forget it. it seem like the more i get cold the faster it grows back....but that could just be me.

some people believe that because when you get goosebumps your hair folicals are rising up, but really goosebumps don't make your hair grow faster.

Do goosebumps make your hair (ie. leg hair) grow faster?

No. Jeez, the dumb questions on here!!

Do goosebumps make your hair (ie. leg hair) grow faster?

when you get goosebumps, it isn't your skin rising up, there are tiny little muscle type things next to your hair follicles called erector pilli, when you are cold or scared, these erector pilli pull up your hair. This is what causes the skin to bump ( the contraction of the "muscle") and your hair to stand up, it is a feeble attempt of your body to trap warm air closer to the skin.

you feel goosebumps whenever you feel cold or perhaps from fear. it is caused by tiny muscles in you skin that contract and would result to your hair standing up NOT to grow faster.
